President George W. Bush announced Monday his intention to nominate Charles A. Gargano of New York to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Austria. After confirmation by the U.S. Senate, he would succeed Ambassador Susan R. McCaw, who intends to leave her post on November 26, 2007.

Here is the relevant excerpt of the White House announcement of Nov. 5, 2007:

Mr. Gargano most recently served as Vice Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Prior to this, he served as Chairman of the Empire State Development Corporation of New York State and Commissioner of the Department of Economic Development.
