Arrival Statement by
U.S. Ambassador-Designate to Austria William C. Eacho, III
(as delivered)
August 20, 2009
Guten Morgen!
Meine Familie und ich freuen uns, hier in Österreich zu sein.
Vielen Dank, dass Sie heute Morgen hergekommen sind, um uns zu begrüßen.
I am pleased to join you today as President Obama's personal envoy and representative to the Republic of Austria. I look forward to presenting my credentials to President Fischer and to representing my country to the government and the people of Austria.
I bring you personal greetings from President Obama. My family and I had the pleasure of visiting with him in the Oval Office after my swearing-in last week, and he asked me to bring his personal regards to the people of Austria and your representatives.
President Obama and I are committed to working with Austria to confront the most important challenges that we face on the earth today, including nuclear proliferation, violent extremism, poverty, pandemic disease, over reliance on fossil fuels and global climate change. We share common values, and as such we believe must face these challenges together.
I look forward to working with Austria on these issues and a variety of issues of mutual importance.
My family and I also especially look forward to experiencing more of your beautiful country, its people, and your fabled music and culture.
Danke schoen - thank you!
